Based on the real speed limit
FamTrip3 checks speeds of 65 mph and up — the speeds of highways and fast roads — and compares them with the posted speed limit on that road. The alert goes out when the driver is 15 mph or more over that road’s limit. Slower city streets aren’t checked, so FamTrip3 won’t alert you about 50 mph on a 30 mph street.
Speeding alerts are a heads-up for parents, not a safety system. They depend on the phone’s GPS, its signal and the speed limit data for that road.
The speed has to stay high for a few seconds before an alert goes out. A quick pass or a GPS glitch doesn’t send a false alarm.
Only the adults hear about it
In each circle, every member is marked as an adult or a kid. Speeding alerts go only to the adults, never to other kids, and never to the person who is driving. Whoever created the circle can change who’s an adult, and everyone in the circle can see the list — nobody is checked on without knowing.
Why it matters
For parents of new drivers, the first months behind the wheel are the riskiest. A speeding alert is a conversation starter, not a punishment: it tells you when to talk, and lets you stay out of the way the rest of the time.
See the drive afterwards
Every trip is saved street by street, with its speed, so you can look at the drive together later. Learn more about the live family map and adults and kids in FamTrip3.
